Budget Billing Explained

When can I sign up for Budget Billing?
You can open a Budget Billing Account between May 1st and July 31st. Please give us a call at 867-777-3422 to find out what your monthly payments will be. 

How do you calculate my Budget Billing amount?|
To calculate your monthly Budget Billing Payment, we use your actual usage over the previous 12 months (the total of all Gas Distribution Charges plus GST). We then divide that total by 11 and round up to the nearest 5, which becomes your monthly Budget Billing Payment for the next 11 months.

What is a renewal month?
Your Budget Billing Payment will be applied to your monthly statement for next 11 months. In the 12th month (your account renewal month), your Budget Billing Payment will be recalculated based on actual usage. At this time you will be billed for your actual usage during that month plus any remaining balance in your Budget Billing Account. 

What is a Budget Billing Account?
A Budget Billing Account is designed to evenly spread your annual gas costs across a 12 month period. For example, if your Budget Billing Payment is $500 but your actual June Gas Distribution Charge is $100, a credit of $400 is applied to your Budget Billing Account. However, in January, a Gas Distribution Charge of $800 would result in a $300 shortfall for the month– this amount will be covered by any balance in your Budget Billing Account.

What does it mean if I owe money in my Budget Billing Account on my renewal month? 
We use your previous 12 months of usage to calculate your Budget Billing Payment. If you used more gas than the previous year, you will have money owing in your Budget Billing Account in your renewal month. If you used less gas than the previous year, you will have a credit. If during the year you anticipate that your usage has increased and that your Budget Billing charge may not reflect this, please let us know and we will increase your Budget Billing Payment at your discretion. Be advised that we are not able to lower your Budget Billing Payment at any time during the Plan year. 

What if I want to cancel my Budget Billing Plan before my renewal month? 
If you would like to cancel your Budget Billing Plan prior to your renewal month, any amount owing or credits will be applied to your billing account. To find the balance of your Budget Billing Account please see: Budget Billing

I just moved into a new home, am I able to sign up for Budget Billing?
You can open a Budget Billing Account if the property in question has had an active IGL account for the preceding 12 months. Be advised that your Budget Billing Payment will be calculated based on the previous occupant’s usage. If you anticipate using less or more gas, we suggest waiting one year before signing up for Budget Billing to ensure your Budget Billing Payment will reflect your own usage.
